3 micron is about 8K grit from what I can see on the grit chart (someone verify that). So the 3 micron comes after the 6K.

I use diamond stones: 600 and 1200 grit followed by Tormek honing paste, supposedly 3 micron, on balsa and bare horse butt leather as a final.

Personally, I also use the 1 micron spray on balsa and finish on plain horse leather, so far I haven't needed more,haha.
