While I have no doubts that the Takedas are very nice knives, the gyutos aren't shaped like gyutos.

Have a look at the pic on the product page: http://www.chefknivestogo.com/tagyas24.html

That's the Takeda Classic 240mm gyuto. Does the profile look like any of the other gyutos, or instead like a super santoku? lol Chances are good that if you ask for a gyuto the folks here will steer you towards something shaped like a gyuto.

Don't get me wrong, i have read a lot of good things about the Takedas in different places and I personally have no real issues with the blade shape since it looks like it would push cut and chop VERY well (not so much rocking though, like a santoku... go figure), but unless you want a gyuto that isn't shaped like a gyuto but a huge santoku instead, you may want to steer clear. ;)

FWIW, I bought the Anryu Hammered partly on Mel's recommendation, it is my favorite knife right now. I highly recommend it.

I have considered all the knives you listed/were recommended above, I think you could throw a dart at the list, buy what you hit, and be happy with the outcome.

aporias wrote:Takeda Gyuto or Sasanoha AS: i am sure it is a good knife, but my feeling is that the Gyuto might be too tall, and the sasanoha to low. This is really the only reason i haven't ordered one yet.

I think you already nailed that one on your own.

The forum member special for the Goko 240 in White #1 is a KILLER deal. (Not a knife that I've used . . . yet!)

And you'd have a lot more room in your budget to upgrade the handle if you're so inclined.

APARIAS <> Nothing strange about it; you didn't ask for a cleaver or a large petty.

edit: I hadn't seen the second page & therefore the last few replies, but I think you can recognize a common denominator.

@Toddndm: thanks, the Goko also looks awesome actually. (well, no words about the plastic Ferrule...)
Which forum member special do you mean? I see it priced 189.95$ on the site.
