I have seen a lot of people claim that a chosera 400 cuts better than a ep 120 and the same for shapton glass 220. I know the grits are different so just looking at that it does not seam to be possible. I was thinking about adding the 220 glass and using that as my main reprofiler if it cuts better than the 120. I plan on getting the 150 bamboo but its always out of stock may go with 180 or 120 bamboo and I eventually want a atoma140 but for right now I need to replace my ep 120 with another 120 ep or I thought I could replace both the ep 120 and 220 witha glass 220. Also if i went with the 320 maybe i could replace the 400 ep so 1 stone take the place of three.

IMO the EP 120 cuts like a marshmallow. Didn't I see where Ken has more Bamboo 150s on the way? Well worth the wait. The difference is astounding.

Also, there's more to the equation than just grit. Abrasive and binder composition are key. An interesting and relative read:

Looks like the 150 is the way to go I guess taking a short cut will not work. Is there a big difference between the 120 150 & 180 bamboo because the 120 and180 are in stock

If you want it NOW the GS 220 is a winner.

agree, the shapton GS 220 cut at least 5x faster on most metals and 2x3 time fast on super metals, like zdp-189, my stock stone would hardly screacth ZDP - the shapton cut like butter !

Sorry to jack the thread but

This is the second time I see someone provide the makeitsharp link...

Each time I see the clamp holding the knife to the EP knife table.

Is this standard practice or just done for the picture?

Thanks

El

The magnet is great It just stabilizes the knife on the table. I am not sure if 2 magnets would be better thinking about giving that a try I tape my magnet underneath the table works great until the tape turns loose not a big problem just put on new tape.

i was thinking i need a magnet near the back of the table too, but it does make sharpening so much better!!

I used super glue for my magnet, works great
