I know that the blue painters tape is recommended for the flat surface of the edge pro apex and on the blade to prevent scratches. After doing some research, some people have said that if water gets on the tape, the tape becomes unsecured?

Just wondering through your experiences, what tapes work best for both the flat surface of the edge pro apex on on the blade?

I have one more day to wait till my set comes in and its driving me crazy!..haha

I have always used blue painter's tape and never had a problem with it not adhering to the EP or knives when wet.
Be advised that painter's tape can remove some kanji or kurouchi finish from some knives.
I used to tape some knives to protect them from scratches while sharpening but now I have resigned myself to regarding them as tools that inevitability will get dinged.
As a wise man told me " a knife is just a platform for an edge.".
Enjoy the ride the rabbit hole is deep and expensive.

I don't have a problem with adhesion. Eventually you'll wear on the tape enough and swap it for new. I usually tape both sized of the blade as well to avoid scratching. I haven't had an issue yet with the tape removing any finish/logos, but then again, I haven't sharpened that many KU knives.

I replace the blue tape with every 2 or 3 knives but I have sharpened many knives with no tape on the bench at all.
I always make sure to wash the grit off the bench with a little splash of water when I flip the blade whether I am using tape or not.

Gees Rook you're even better putting the tape on than me.
I have a long road ahead of me if I want to catch up to you. Now I need to go get some yellow tape.

The secret lies in the tape overlapping on the side of the blade table - tape on tape sticks like Sh*t, while tape on the blade table does not stick that well.

Also I use duct tape instead of painters tape - find it a better suited product overall.

Hope this helps somewhat?

:)

Awesome help guys. I still haven't had a chance to go to Home Depot yet to shop for my supplies as I work graveyard shifts. Soon though.
