If you do a lot of smoking and/or grilling those wireless temp probes are priceless. With the dual temp display you can get a reading of two chunks of meat or you can have a reading of a single chunk of meat and the internal temp of your smoker or grill. I used to smoke and grill with hardwood charcoal, so temp control becomes VERY important.
It can be used with a normal oven as well, but typically they are overkill as the oven is inside the house usually anyway.
As far as birthday meals, I remember growing up I used to love a nice big lobster. I could care less what was with it as long as I had a lobster. lol We weren't poor but we didn't have a lot of money either, so lobster was a treat for me. Now that I am grown I find that I love dungeness crab. King crab and snow crab are ok, but to me dungeness is the tops. Being from Louisiana the two sides I'd probably want are some corn on the cob and red potatoes cooked in the same water as the crab, like a good ol' crawfish boil.
