Yup, what these guys said! Conversions, I don't charge an arm and a leg for since they are kind of a fun challenge for me
They are best for someone who already has the knife and loves the profile/steel/etc, but wants a Wa handle or to lighten the knife up and put a Wa handle on it. If you like the Hiromoto, look at the other AS knives recommended that come with the Wa handle. Both the AS Laser and Kohetsu have a harder rochwell on the AS core and perform better and are thinner than the Hiromoto.
When I convert the knife, I have to blend the area under the bolster with the blade, and usually the logo gets at least partially removed and I refinish the whole blade in a satin finish to match the area that was under the bolster. Sometimes there are height differences between under the bolster and the blade, or grooves in the blade where the front of a pinned bolster locked in to (Kikuichi TKC IIRC has this?) Stainless Damascus or deeply etched Damascus doesn't look as nice afterwards, so I usually pass on converting those types of knives.
