Beautiful job Red - nicely done!

It's always interesting to see which topics generate a lot of posts - you never know which ones will get things crankin' :-).

It's made out of 3/4 stock. All pieces ripped to 1 1/2 " or less then alternate the end grain before gluing back together. This provides stability and adds to the variation in the pattern when it's done. After this is dry, it gets planed flat, then it's crosscut into 2" strips then every other strip is flipped 180 degrees and glued back together so the end grain is on top. By flipping every other piece, you stagger all of the glue lines and also add to the random pattern. The end result is a 2" thick board that has lots of variation in the top. It's a lot more gluing to do this with 3/4 stock versus 8/4 stock.

Looking at getting a new board, can't choose between lonestar, board smith or a boos block. Help?

If want to support a true small business man throw out Boos first and go from there.

Regardless of who you choose from there you are going to get a great product that you will be passing down to your grandchildren.
