Agree Mel. I bought the Hamon for the initial intention as a parer. I thought it would need thinning to really excel lay this, I was impressed by how robust it is though and now use in during butchering and am using it as a small game knife. I didn't like it in its current state for paring.

"A thinned out Hamon<--link would be more my style..."

Pour yourself a drink and keep the bottle handy. That's gonna take a looong time. The Hamon is very thick at the spine with a convex grind.

SWARF <> Yeah, I wasn't suggesting I would buy a RichmondHamon so as to thin it. I was explaining that if a 75 & 95mm parer were to be made in the vein of a current line; I would prefer a thinned version of a Hamon as opposed to the idea of a laser thin Kohetsu as was raised by Red.
