For about 10 years, I stored my kitchen knives (Henkels) magnetic knife racks. Over time, the knives became magnetic(!). Has anyone else experienced this? Does the alignment of molecules with the magnetic field change the properties of the steel in the knives? Inquiring minds want to know. :?

Location: USA... mostly.
PAPILLON <> It is a normal occurrence, and effects the knives' integrity in no way. I do not own an atomic microscope nor have any clinical studies to reference, but I can tell you from experience... your knives are fine.

I use magnetic racks too and had the same concerns when I noticed that my knives wanted to snuggle with every piece of silverware they got close to.
And as these guys have said, it doesn't hurt a thing.

Yup, won't hurt your knives. Basically, over time you magnetic strip match up all the electrons spins with its magnetic field, and iron, cobalt, and nickle being ferromagnetic elements you creat a permanent magnet.
