Dear CKTG,

I recently placed an order for an edge pro with the shapton stones. I was wondering what the best option for leveling/flattening the stones was? WOuld the edge pro leveling kit (silicon carbide powder on a flat glass plate) be sufficient? Or is there a better (yet equally inexpensive) option?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Mario

Hi Mario,

If you have the edge pro leveling kit by all means use it.

If you don't I think there are better options available to you.

I like the DMT diamond plate: http://www.chefknivestogo.com/dmtextracoarse.html

Coarse wet dry sandpaper works too...

If you are only going to be flattening EP sized stones, the DMT 2 sided 2x6 plate works very well. A little less expensive as well: http://www.chefknivestogo.com/dmt2x6diplfo1.html.

Get the 2x6 DMT plate then you can also use it on your EP, for re-profiling and flattening.
