For belts I use almost exclusively 3M belts these days.
I use the 984F for metal removal, the Trizact CF (Gator) for metal polishing, the 3M ScotchBrite for metal polishing after the Gator belts, the 341D for my "X" weight wood, and the 707E for my "J" weight belt.
If you don't know....."X" weight is stiff, "J" is flexible. And by flexible, they mean like paper thin flexible. The "J" weight is good for contours and such.
I know the 3M 984F isn't available in 1x30, but the Blaze Belt from Norton is. I would recommend it if you want a metal removal belt. Supergrit sells the Blaze in 1x30:http://www.trugrit.com/belts1.htm
I use 36 and 80 grit metal removal and "X" weight wood belts, 120/240/400 grit "X" weight and "J" weight wood, the A160 and A65 Gator belts, and the coarse/medium/and fine Scotchbrite belts.
