Hello Everyone :D

I'm sure many are asking themselves just who is this Dabney character and where did he come from ?

I'm a stay at home Dad here in Melbourne Florida and make knives as much as time allows, which is never as much as I want ;)

I've been making a little over 5 years now so I'm certainly not a newbie to the craft. I've been laying low while honing my skills and building my shop. I've been preparing for the day when my little girl will be off to Pre-K and I'll have basically full time to be a professional knifemaker.

I do have a fully equipped shop to work in. All the usual toys... I mean TOOLS of the trade. 3 grinders, buffer, drill press, 2 band saws, surface grinder, milling machine, forge, anvils, hammers, Heat Treating oven, professional quenchants, etc. etc. etc..

I am an American Bladesmith Society apprentice smith and have passed my Journeyman Smith performance test. The next step to achieving the Journeyman Smith rating is making 5 knives to be presented for judging at the annual Bladeshow in Atlanta. I'm confident my skills are up to the task but it still may prove difficult for me to find the time in 2014. This is a pursuit I plan to achieve.

I'm not a chef or anything even resembling a chef but my love for knifemaking goes deep. I got interested in kitchen knives mainly by making some for home use. There is a real draw to making knives for use that will actually be used and enjoyed by their owners for the intended purpose. Knives that see regular use year round and demonstrate their ability to perform are very appealing from a makers viewpoint.

Wow... very nice work! I really like the looks of the blades in that last set of pics. All of your handles look awesome as well!

And that silver inlay... wow... O.O

Melampus- I actually live right on the border of West Melbourne and Palm Bay. Malabar is maybe 6 or 8 miles away. Drop me a line when you'll be in the area and I'll have you over for a shop visit.
