Yes it can happen. I've had it happen on my dmt plates before but usually on rough stones in the 1k or lower range. On fine stones I usually rinse them will and then run my fingers over it to see if I can feel any. With these little slurry plates I've never had a problem. Also the atomas are usually no problem.
