Folks, the owner wants me to fix the handle on this knife but I can't see anything wrong with it. The handle is not loose and the wooden portion lines up with the black plastic portion. The only thing that I can think of is that the angled portion of the handle/ferrule which is currently on the right side of the knife, is not in right spot.

As I said, the handle is tight, I can't move it and I'm afraid if I try too hard I will break it or something. Are you able to tell by the pictures if the handle is oriented correctly or incorrectly?

Thanks friends.
Peter

Ask him what he feels is wrong with it. Part of your job is educating your customers.

It's hard to tell from the first pic, but is the blade/tang centered in the handle?

ken, I've asked to meet with him actually to find out what his issue is, there is definitely something bugging him about it.
Taz, yes it is centered thanks. I can see what you mean by looking at the picture on top, it looks like the blade is to the left of center a little but it isn't. He didn't know what type of knife it was so I've scanned some Usuba info from a book I have for him. I will let you know what it is as soon as I get a chance to meet with him.

AH, ok! Yeah, check it out and see; sometimes handles aren't aligned perfectly to the blade where the blade is at an angle or something, or it could be that the pointy part of the D is in the middle vs up a little, etc. Could be a simple fix hopefully!

Ok, met with the owner of the Usuba.
1. He didn't know it was a Usuba
2. He bought the knife for 20 bucks on ebay
3. He speaks very little English
4. He never had a problem with the handle, he was saying the wrong thing
5. He thought the knife was bent
6. He is happy now because the knife is sharp, it isn't bent.

Thanks and sorry for wasting your time.

Heck of a nice guy, very popular restaurant and I walked out with a bag of knives to sharpen and clearly, I am quite good at fixing handles :).

Well, it all worked out and I'm glad we didn't see anything wrong. :)
