A while ago I bought a Global Chef's knife and a Global Mino Sharp 3 from you. I've noticed that the knife does not get as sharp after sharpening as it used to. Does this mean I need a new sharpener? Can the ceramic sharpening wheels be replaced? What do you recommend?

thanks,

James

Hi James,

The minosharp sharpener does have replacement wheels that work but we don't sell them. Do a search and you should find someone that offers them.

Ideally I recommend that you get a stone and sharpen on that. Something like this combo stone from Imanishi is a good one and pretty much all you need. With just a little practice you will get better edges than you've ever gotten with the minosharp.

The wheels can also be taken out and cleaned. Perhaps they are just clogged with metal debris.

However, I agree with Mark....learning to use a stone is pretty simple and will get you light years beyond what the Minosharp will.

I agree, get a stone and start to freehand. You won't regret it!

JAMES <> I had to look up your Mino as I had no idea what it is. Beyond it being an incredibly ineffective method of sharpening, it does not allow you to thin behind the edge when required.

I suggest heeding the consensual recommendation... buy a stone.. click here to learn how to use it.

FYI: they are replaceable as illustrated in this video that is as boring as the Minosharp:
