Ok, met with the owner of the Usuba.
1. He didn't know it was a Usuba
2. He bought the knife for 20 bucks on ebay
3. He speaks very little English
4. He never had a problem with the handle, he was saying the wrong thing
5. He thought the knife was bent
6. He is happy now because the knife is sharp, it isn't bent.

Heck of a nice guy, very popular restaurant and I walked out with a bag of knives to sharpen and clearly, I am quite good at fixing handles
