Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply, I think I will get the Richmond Strop Base and leave the CO paste for now. I do have another question if you could help me with it as I am unable to feel the knives before I purchase. I am going to purchase a konosuke HD2 knife however I am undecided on which handle to get, I like the look of the ebony handle over the standard one however I would imagine that this makes the knife a bit heavier? If this the case how does this affect the balance of the blade in hand with it being a light blade? I prefer the look of the ebony handle but wouldn't want it to compromise the feel of the knife. If it helps i am looking at a 240mm gyuto.

Kind Regards,

Daniel

I like the ebony ones better myself. They're really nice and the wood is more durable. They are a little heavier but it's not like they're made out of stone. The knife feels good with that handle on it.

If you use a pinch grip, you'll hardly notice any change in handle weight.

DANIEL <> As mentioned, they are heavier, but won't upset balance too much as 240 Wa is pretty much going to be blade heavy regardless. The ebony will actually pull the balance back a little bit which you may prefer, but does raise overall weight a few grams.

Personally, I can't stand the Konosuke ebony handles. Image

I have a 180 petty with an ebony handle and used a 300 suji with a ho handle. Both are fine and if you're using a pinch grip, it's a matter of aesthetics

I would probably opt for the cheaper option, you can always make a project of it or send it off for a custom if it bothers you.
