I am wanting a higher grit stone for my straight razor.

I like the price point of the Imanishi 10k, but is it far enough away from my Chosera SS 8k to see a significant improvement?

Are there any other recommendations for a next step from my 8k (price is a factor)?

Thanks in advance.

Probably the best 10k in its price range and better than stone two or three times its price.

Jason,

Do you think I will see a decided improvement in edge refinement over the Chosera SS 8k?

Maybe, but the SS polish waaaaaay beyond there stated grit as does the 10k imanishi. I would probably look into the 12k SS or natural stones.

Doh!

Naniwa SS 8k. Nice catch Adam.

The SS 8k is my highest grit stone right now. My lower grit stones are King Ice Bears.

You might consider going for the Shapton Pro 15k. Very popular among the razor nuts.

The SS 8k to Shapton Pro 15k is not too big a jump?

I've seen it said many times that doubling the grit in your progression is acceptable. I personally never go higher than 8k so I can only assume.

Do ya'll have any thoughts on mixing stone manufacturers?

Since my low grit stones are King, the 8K, Naniwa, and I'm looking at Imanishi or perhaps Shapton?
