WOW...that is some spectacular wood! wow I really am speechless. Good stuff. What do you use to join the buckeye and the bog oak? The fit and finish looks pretty awesome! Now all i can think about is this handle on a mirror polished blade! What are your plans for it? Thanks for sharing.

It's going to be going on a 250mm fowler gyuto, it's not mirror polished but it's a fowler so it's a stunner!! I should have it installed tomorrow (hopefully)

Canadian Man how did that knife come out?

Heres a shot of this mini gyuto aka kitchen scalpel. but the blade has been increased to 165mm at a customers request.
This one has been sent off to be professionally heat treated. The CPM S35VN steel realistically gets to 60RC and has excellent corrosion and wear resistance. This one is going to get a simple handle with some average figured Koa and some naval brass pins.

The knife came out great, I will post some pics tonight when I am done work.

That knife looks great! how was it working with that steel compared to Aeb-l or even cpm-154

I am not quite sure how to describe grinding the CPM-35VN. It sortof seems like the belt is "spreading" the steel around almost as if I was using a dull belt. Id much prefer grinding AEB-L or high carbon steels. I think it must be the 3% vanadium that makes the difference. Another big problem was that it would require more pressure and time grinding it thin thus producing more heat. I like to grind bare handed freestyle, so the extra heat really slowed me down. I am expecting to spend about 4-6 hours post heat treat grinding just to get the bevels down from .015 at the edge to .005
