Hello,
I am looking to pick up a few synthetic stones in the near future from your site and wanted to ask your thoughts in an effort to help me decide. I was looking at the Shaptons (pro or glass) and the Chosera. I would use these for both knife and razor honing. I am leaning towards the Chosera line as I bought the 1k from you a while back and like it. Also, I figured it might be best because I could use one side dedicated to knives and the other for razors. Curious, from a knife honing standpoint, if you’d suggest something else on your site?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

They're both good stone lines so you won't go wrong with either of them. I tend to like the Shapton Glass stones since they are splash and go and slow wearing but I use them both and like them. I learned to sharpen on a 1K chosera and it's still a stone I like to use.

How often do they require lapping? Also, is a DMT a problem to use on these, or do they require the shaptons lapping plate?

Thanks!
