I bought the starter kit with Beston 500 grit, Bester 1200 grit, and Suehiro Rika 5K stones. Still have a long way to go on my technique but have had a few successes.

I use an Edgepro Apex. For resetting a bevel I use an Atoma 140, Shapton GS 220 and 500. For general sharpening I use Shapton GS 1000, 4000, 8000 and 16000 and finish with a strop. I plan to add in a Shapton 2000 when they are back in stock. I've recently purchased some of the CBN sprays from Ken and I'm starting to experiment with them.

I traded a friend for an Edge Pro Apex 4 and I'm learning to use that, I had ordered the magnet and collar from cktg which definitely help.

Hida Tool 320 (not sure who makes it, great stone); JNS 800 (best stone I've ever used in the 800-1200 range); Rika 5k.

Keeping it simple.

currently using the Murray Carter method but on these stones

King 800/6000 combo (will probably end up replacing these with shapton glass)
shapton glass 2000

also have a bester 220 for beat up knives.

currently started using horse leather to finish.
