....haha....you cheapskate - your hotel bill reflecting $8.25 works just as well.

"Cheap".?! That's a $5 tip on an $8 whiskey.

Hotel's $125 a day. Two weeks at a time, 4 or 5 times a summer... it's far from cheap.

My total seasonal housing expenditure could buy me an inordinate amount of tools, but w/o said expenditure, I'd have no work to use them on. 8-)

As for the waiter, I stopped in another hotel's bar on my drive after work for a quick sip, and the "bartender" was this kid that just moved into town from some backwoods area of the country. He was going on & on about how amazing the grocery store was (a grocery store that was truly nothing special). He was so innocent, out of place, & just moved into town w/no money. I couldn't see leaving 20% on $8. I gave him $5 as I have a hard time tipping anyone under $5, regardless of the bill; it just sort of seems useless to throw someone $1.60, and it's not like I'm loaded. I've worked in food service for 24 years, I understand that, in America, its how servers/barkeep make their living. I don't know about in Africa, but unlike Canada & a lot of Europe, in the States most servers only get $2.23 an hour from the house & their tips are their actual income.

Yeah, know the feeling - I too sometimes give occasional excessive tips when the need/feeling arises.....

Nice gesture there Melampus!

:)
