Do you think your Masamoto has discolored?

Look at mine Masamoto! This is what I call discoloration.

I love this knife!

Hi Mark
I am rather confused.
I have been using all kinds of knives for over 40 years.
I have Japanese, German and French kitchen knives.
I have stainless and carbon.
Am I correct from what I am reading in the thread you started that modern Japanese stainless knives will not keep a pristine appearance even if well taken care of.
This knife was used 4 times and promptly cleaned.
It looks really awful and seems to me to be a defective piece of steel.
Do all Masamotos behave this way or it just an odd defective unit
I do not really consider this particular knife acceptable, especially as a present.
I have Japanese stainless warikomi knives that l are 30 years old.
They still look spotless.
Is there a comparable knife to the Masamoto in terms of thinness and feel that will not stain and rust?
I hope there is, otherwise I would like to return this knife for a refund.

Regards,
Eli

Why don't you try a different knife? I don't want you to get the same knife and have it happen again.

Try this instead. When you are done with using the knife wash it and dry it and you should have no problems. Drip drying the knife can stain many kinds of stainless steel so don't do that.

I'll take your used knife back, refund you minus the restock fee, charge you for actual shipping back to you, and ship you this knife as a replacement. I'm pretty sure you will have no problems with it since it uses a different stainless steel that I've never seen react or pit like yours did. Just don't wash it in vinegar and you should be good to go.

Sound good?
