> Hi Mark - A few weeks ago I picked up one of the edgelpro essential sets from you and supplement it with additional stones. So far it has been great, my sharpening has improved dramatically with the angle control of the edgepro. I've successfully sharpened a range of knife steels including ZDP-189 and K390. I would like to complete my stone progression with a 2k Shapton GS but you are currently out of stock. Will you be getting in any new stock in the near future or can you recommend an alternate stone that would work well with my GS ones.
> Thanks....Ron

Hi Ron,

We should have them in about 6 weeks along with the whole progression. If you want to try a good stone the green brick is a really good 2K and will slot in nicely with the others. It needs a 5 minute soak. Otherwise just wait for the glass 2k to show.

Kind Regards,
Mark Richmond

Thanks Mark, I will probably wait on the GS stone. I've supplemented the original set with 220, 8000 and 16000 GS stones, I'm probably being a little OCD but would like to stay with the same line for now.

RON <> What type was the K390 knife, and who made it?

The K390 was a Spyderco Mule. If you are not familiar with the Mule series it's a line of small minimalist fixed blade knifes that are identical in design but made to highlight different steel types. The K390 Mule came our about a week and a half ago and sold out in just a few days.

How did you find the GS stones performed on the K390??

:)

Thank you for the welcome Michiel.
MR, I have used many of your posts on the edge pro in trying to learn to sharpen with the system and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I started wiith a 140 Atoma and followed it up with a progression of GS 220/500/1000/4000/8000/16000. It's a long process and took 3+(?)hours. I thought it was easier than a ZDP-189 knife I did but not by a lot. The K390 hrc is a little bit lower at around 63 vs around 65 for the ZDP and that may have been a factor. The 220 glass would have worked and I used it for the ZDP knife before getting the Atoma 140, but the diamond plate was definitely faster although it took a fair amount of work to remove the roughness from the 140. The K390 also seemed to dish the stones much faster than normal especially at the lower grits. If you are interested I can post a picture of the edge.
Thanks ...Ron
