sure a coticule leaves a smooth edge if you know what you do. look for a la verte, its a good finnishing stone once you learn how to hone on it (its not as easy to hone on coticule as it is on syntetic stones). with syntetic stones you need high grits around 15k + to get a edge that dosent feel like its pulling the whiskars.. IMO

when you bring those razors to theperfectedge make sure you bring razors that can take a 30k edge. not many can... german and sheffield razors are mostly to soft in the steel.

And as Melampus said about aftershave. try use aftershave balms its better for the skin and will help the razor burn better then alcoholic based aftershaves witch also gives you dry skin. Balms moist the skin rather.

Good to know about the steels. I don't have any swedish steel (yet :) ) only german and american. I'll bring a couple and let him decide. He also sells the coticules so maybe I can get a demo of one while I'm there.

I don't know if the TOBS contains alcohol...I'll check when I get home. I usually use Aveeno AS lotion that definitely doesn't have alcohol, but its very heavy feeling so I don't like to use it on hot days.

Thank you!!

Cheers. i always tend to go for razors that is abit of a gamble. this one turned out super nice once restored. the blade hit the scales very hard so i had to use a hairdryer and cold water to make it straight. now its closeing dead center and cant tell its been warped. i also had to buff out some stains on the blade.

I have dabbled in 'ebay specials' and have quite a few few of them. unfortunately for me, I don't have the necessary equipment or space to really restore them properly. I just hand sand/polish out what I can and attempt to hone. So far, only 2 have really turned out to be junk (unable to be honed to a decent edge) and a couple more that are questionable. I did get a 'shave ready' Torrey wedge that I love!! In my opinion, its one of 2 razors I own that has a truly good edge. Used it today with Proraso pre-shave, AoS sandalwood creme and AS balm. Still only have a beginner brush, but the shaves with this Torrey are fantastic!! I'm going to try to get some pics going in this section soon...my camera is crap though :(

...and I'll double up on the Wow.

I love the tang. The spine work looks practical. I have found a barber's notch helps me "see through." I REALLY dig the 45 they took off the square point!
