Hi. Was wondering if any of the knife/handle makers on the forum ever custom-make handles out of any material similar to the Forschner Fibrox or other material similar to it. Something with grip, and maybe a little "stickiness". thanks

Of all the handle materials I've used, G10 is probably the closest to the Fibrox handles. But nothing I've tried has that "sticky" feeling I remember the Fibrox handles having.

Coarsely sanded Micarta or G10 will be similar (like stop at 220 grit tops, maybe even 120-150?) The fabric laminate handles I did are similar to a Micarta material, but can be left at lower grits and have a fuzzy feeling to them that may stick in your hands more at the lower grits as well.

I've often times thought of investing in a small sandblaster to texture handles. I gotta do that one of these days.

I've done that before Adam and was never really happy with the feel of it, especially for a kitchen knife. I usually do a low grit sandpaper and then rub in some mineral oil or something like that to darken it.

Yeah, that's what I've done as well Tim. Sad to hear the sandblaster thing didn't work though. Glad you said that, save me an experiment. :)

I'd imagine a 3 or 4-axis small cnc engraving machine might work. Dunno.

Might, but I'd have to see that done. :)

It would have to be a very small cutter, which would mean it would be very fragile as well! Neoprene rubber should be sticky and have grip, but it's hard to find in thicker sections sometimes and has it's own issues with working with it.

I've also heard/seen a few "Horse Mat" handles. Kind of intriguing....but the thought always throws me off. :)
