Looks fine to me. 20 swipes is nothing...
It just looks messy cause it's scratched, and needs a re-polish with something high grit...8k~12k +
Haven't used Scotch Brite pads, but they'll probably work fine.
I found after having my first knife and making mistakes with sharpening that there is very little you can't undo.
Experimenting is part of learning sharpening. Just don't whack it against something and take a large chip out of the edge.
Regardless, sounds like Shaun can take care of it for you and do the etch job as well. I'm sure it'll come back looking awesome.
For sharpening..all you really need to do is touch up the knife on the high grit side of the stone, lightly, at about 15 degrees...give or take. Maybe ten strop's on each side with water(...and keeping in mind that a good bevel has already been set and the edge is in nice shape), and then feel the sharpness, etc... You'll get better at it, until it's like second nature. Practice makes perfect.
