Does anyone have experience shaving with the Kanenaga specifically? Mark says it's White #2 but I was curious about its Rockwell rating? -Josh

Never tried it. Only have a Nubatama and honed a few.

JOSH <> I'm still working on getting it to pass a HHT. I'm really excited about using it as I've had some difficulty shaving with a hollow-grind as I have really thick "whiskers." I have had much better results with a full wedge, and this Kata-ha hopefully will have the brut force of the wedge with the finesse of a hollow-grind.

I can say the picture on CKTG is a bit out-of-date. Mark had sold out, just got a new batch in, and they look to have a much higher level of F&F then the last though I question they are still hand made as the grinds seem robotic. Aesthetically speaking, they have some really nice angles in their grinds as illustrated in the first photo. Of note, the urasuki (concave back) is WAY concave as illustrated in the latter pictures...

JOSH <> I reckon, you spoke with Mark direct about this razor, but it is, in fact, Yellow #2 steel (kigami 2).

Melampus, thanks for the thorough replies, and the pics, I appreciate it my friend. Thanks for the clarification on the steel, there appears to be someone on ebay selling these for $130 and he specified yellow steel as well (of course, ebay can be a gamble). Not sure about the HRC. Follow up and let us know what you think after the first shave. I'm hoping to jump on board soon. Josh

FYI, I talked to one of the distributors from Japan and apparently the HRC on the Kanenaga is 60 - 61.
