I found this knife at a garage sale and curious if anyone knows anything about it. It has a cheesy pat pending stamp and some Japanese markings. I do like the handle, but it has unfortunately formed a crack. I know it is nothing fancy, but curious to know if anyone can tell me anything about it.

I'm sure our resident ID guru, Mckemaus, will chime in.

Interesting the Wa has what looks to be a wood rivet, and most of the cheapy stuff don't employ a machi. Can't wait to hear what it is.

I think these guy made it. I couldn't find a model with that particular handle though.

Oh the kanji are

"日本橋" Nihonbashi

"木屋" Kiya

They're a retail shop (I think.). Can't tell who actually made tht particular knife.

Hope this helps :)

Interesting, thank you! Any guess what type of steel may be used for a knife like this?

Mckemaus <> You never cease to amaze. You know if it's real damascus or just an etch? Any idea what kinda steel? You know anything about that rivet looking thing, that's only on the right side?.!

Sorry... No idea on that one...

But, from the pic, to me, the steel looks like regular stainless with etched pattern on it and the handle might have been a re-handle. (I just am guessing because it looks a little large and I can't find any of their line that use that type of handle. Others in here would have better idea about the steel and handle.) :)
