I need some recommendations . . . I have a great selection and progression of stones and all do very well except I don't really care for my Shapton Glass 4K stone. I have the Shapton 320 & 1K too and no issues with them. The 4K just tends to load, does not have a nice feel, and I just feel like trying something is in order.
I have been sharpening my whole life but really just became hooked into Japanese whetstones about a year ago. At this point I am not a professional, but I have sharpened around 100 knives so if someone was willing to pay me, I believe I can provide them with a high quality product in return.
From the 1K Shapton Glass I need the next progression of stone before going to my Kitayama 8K (which I love and now have the skill to both strop and sharpen by pushing the edge (need a definition here) without gouging the soft stone.
I think a single stone between the 1K S-Glass and the Kitayama will be enough, but I would love what you guys think.
Here is my inventory so you have an idea:
Nubatama Bamboo 150 Grit
Shapton Glass 320 Grit
Shapton Glass 1K Grit
Shapton Glass 4K Grit (Looking to replace)
Kitayama 8K Grit (Green Stone mounted on a base)
Balsa Strop w/ 1 micron diamond spray
Balsa Strop w/ .5 chromium oxide paste
Horse hide strop
kangaroo strop- I am going to try Ken's .1 micron CBN on this.
I know this is kinda sick, but no sicker than most of the rest of the folks on this site
