I just got a tanaka blue steel kamasori from japan woodworker. I couldn't get it to pass the hht test. I'm curious if i should give it a go or touch it up. Any experience with these pertaining to them coming shave ready?

Yeah I noticed a very small chip. It was just big enough that i could barely see it. I had to check with a microscope to make sure, and it was there. Do u think this is somewhat commomn, and i should keep it and sharpen it or return it. Do i need to reset the bevel? I have sp1000 a kohetsu 2k, a meara. I have other higher and lower stones, but figured one of those would probably be the place to start. What do u suggest starting at? Im still really new to razor sharpening. I just got my boker to pass the hht test.

The chips were a little worse than i initially thought. I had to spend some some time on a 320,1000. I still dont have two completely out. If i didnt know they were there, I probably wouldn't be able to see them with naked eye. But in the right light i can still barely see two. Im bummed that ive had to be that aggressive with a btand new razor. I dont think it should of come with those chips. Im wondering if I should stay on the 1k untill i cant see the chip under microscope. Or should i just wait until i cant see it by eye. Or should i start moving now to a 2k kohetsu or 5k shapton.

You need to get rid of the chips: it will hurt if you don't.

How common do u think it is to get one of these with chips already? Thanks for the replies. Its a ghost town in the shaving section. I often have to fumble around on the other forums for info.
