Ok, if I get the 16k I will have the 2k, 6k and 16k. I doubt (but never know :)) if I'll ever get the 30k. Then I'll consider the coarser stones. I'm thinking you wrote "cut out the 6k" but meant the 8k. Is that right?

Thank you.

MR,

I think jacknifeh has the 6K but no 8K and that is why he asked the question.

If you use the Shapton glass stones dry what would happen? Would they not perform as well? Would it damage or wear out the stones? I haven't tried them dry before asking in case I may damage them. Thanks for any help.

.....now why would you attempt to eat soup with a fork....???

The stone will load very quick - clog & become useless.

Water keeps the schwarf/metal particals moving and aids in releasing fresh abrasive material in conjunction with the "scrubbing" motion.

I would not dream of using it dry.

:)

I was just wondering because the Spyderco ceramic stones can be used dry and the way the Shapton glass stones don't absorb water they may be similar. Thanks for your reply.
