I've taken the AEB-L Artifex up to a Ozuka Asagi J Nat finish (supposed to be 12-15K, maybe higher) and then stropped on Balsa loaded with Boron Carbide. Same procedure as my Carbon steel knives.

I take AEB-L up pretty high. 10k and a 1 micron strop.

I took the latest batch of M390 Artifex all the way up to the Ozuka Asagi stone and I used 1 micron diamond spray on that stone. They are crazy sharp, I would have to say on par with the AEB-L knives I did the same progression on as far as I can tell, but they took a little bit longer overall to sharpen.

finer edge potential is because AEB-l has a finer grain than 390?

Adam, how far would you take the Artifex in terms of grit when finishing. Would you suggest a 12 degree primary and 15 degree microbevel or straight 15 degree finished with a strop? Received the Artifex with your oval Wa Handle from Mark along with a 6 and 12k glass stone you suggested . Really nice. Thanks.

I typically start all knives at about 10 degrees per side. If they fail, put a 12 or 15 degree microbevel on them.
