Hey Mark,

I've been looking for a petty knife/utility knife for a while now and I cant make up my mind, I was wondering if you could recommend me one.

Hi Danilo,

I'm starting a new forum for our store. Do you mind if I use your question and my answer?

Here are a few questions first:
Are you right handed?
Do you know how to sharpen?
Stainless or carbon?
Western handle or Wa handle?
Do you have a price in mind?
I'm guessing you want a 150mm petty or something close?

Kind Regards

Mark Richmond

Sounds great, I don't mind at all.

I'm right handed
I do sharpen at home. I'm currently using a King combo stone 800/6000
I prefer carbon, but I'm flexible.
I enjoy a nice Wa handle
I'm open as far as the price.
I'd like to keep it around 150mm.

Thank you Mark!
Danilo M

Ok Danilo,

My favorite 150mm carbon petty is the Moritaka supreme petty. The steel is excellent and it has a nice rosewood octagonal handle on it. I also like the shape of this particular blade for a petty.
The other one I like very much is the Konosuke white #2 petty. It's light, nimble, thin and hard. It's a great little knife for the price.

The Kono should be back in stock in about 2 weeks.

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

I've had my Moritaka Supreme 150 petty since january and it hasn't gone a day without use. It's light but doesn't feel weak at all. The AS steel gets stupid sharp and holds, for the most part, through a busy service slicing/cutting proteins on a grill station. It's basically my go to line knife. Also, it seems to be less reactive than my Moritaka Gyuto which is a thing I guess!

Good luck!
