PBS Viking Sword

I was watching this show on Viking Swords and how they were made. Very interesting show. The guy that made the sword I met a couple years ago at a knife show. He was selling some knives he made from meteorites. Nice guy.

Was it this show? :)

The coolest part is when the guy says you can substitute bone for charcoal when you need carbon for making steel. So you could grind up a bear, or maybe one of your ancestors, into the iron. The iron becomes steel and then they could make a sword with that. I think that's incredibly powerful.

I know a few people I'd like to grind up.

There were several cool moments in the process. Revealing the ingot, building the kiln and doing the inlay engraving were all interesting parts. Watching him dip that sword in oil too was cool.
