well, i just ordered a chosera 1000 from CKTG. i have always wanted one, considering how much i like the chosera 400. i also wanted to get the bigger size before they are gone. i'll play with it for awhile, and then give a review.

I enjoy mine immensely! I bought it due to the overwhelming praise it gets on the straight razor forums and it doesn't disappoint! It has forced my nubatama ume 1k into early retirement :) Its a great stone IMO, use it well!

Honestly, I'd have to look. I think it is but haven't used it in a LONG time. I'll see if I can find my order history...I'm at work at the moment. Its not a bad stone by any means, I just prefer the chosera mainly because its basically splash and go (more like splash, splash, splash and go) and seems to not be nearly as porous as the nubatama. Also, I hone straight razors about 50:1 compared to sharpening knives.

I recently bought the Chocera 1k and 3k right before the price increase but have yet to use them. Just got a bunch of knives from my brother today and will give them a workout this week. Hoping they live up to their reps. I've been pretty spoiled with my Shapton Pros.

Chris, The Ume speckled 1k medium is ideal for knives but the XX Hard ume speckled is best for straight razors and the backs of Japanese chisels. It is one of the hardest 1k stones available.

Hi Ken! That's what I gathered from your description. Looks like a serious stone! I still have the medium ume because I love it on knives, I just haven't sharpened them in a while, but I've honed 5 SRs in the last week or so. I generally sharpen knives on a sink bridge while I hone on my coffee table :) On the sink bridge, the ume performs like a champ! I am by NO means an expert sharpener so please take my opinions with a grain of salt! :)

I'm looking forward to a harder 1K UME stone. Soon. Very soon.
