This one is a new stone added to the Nubatama lineup. I wanted to introduce it FIRST to the EP 'crowd'

This stone has been over a year in development. It is a 'cousin' to the 1k Speckled Ume stone - one of the most popular Nubatama stones. I already have two 2,000 grit Nubatama stones so why a third one? Well the Bamboo 2k is expensive - works exceptionally well with carbon steels. The black Ume 2k is a brick size and also somewhat expensive because it is large, and somewhat soft, so if you want to go from 1k to either 2k or even 3k, your choices are expensive. Enter the speckled 2k Ume! This is a versatile stone, suitable for a wide range of sharpening needs! And very reasonably priced too. And pretty too.

Mark will be getting just a few of these in for the first batch so they will go fast.

Is it speckled for looks or is there something technical to the speckles?

The speckling is cosmetic, but the formulation characteristics most closely emulate the 1k Speckled Ume stone. I'm still experimenting a bit with using it, but it appears to be similar - possibly slightly harder - than the 1k speckled Ume stone. It is considerably harder than the black 2k Speckled Ume stone.

What kind of finish does it make? Toothy , refined, like a natural?
How fast does it cut?
Price point?

Not that it matters....I'll get one anyway

Price point for the EP should be the same as the black ume 2k. In the full sized stone, it will be similar to the price for the 1k speckled ume stone - significantly less than the black ume stone which is a full brick size and of course less than the bamboo 2k stone.

The stone should be similar but just finer to the 1k Ume speckled stone in medium hardness - perhaps a bit harder. It is considerably harder than the 2k black ume stone. This stone should fit that sweet spot of working well over a very wide range of steels and knife types.

I envision this stone as a perfect followup for the 1k speckled ume and as an intermediate before going on to a 5k Bamboo for instance.

It will also be an excellent precursor or stone preceding using an aoto in a natural stone sequence. I do have aoto available for the EP too.

I'll give a more detailed review in the near future as a video.

I didn't see a speckled 1K Ume but there is a blue one for the EP. Is that it?
I do have a white Bamboo 1K and a gold Bamboo 1K. Are they similar to the speckled 1K Ume so would be a similar progression ?

speckled 1k ume for the EP:

http://www.chefknivestogo.com/nuume1kfored.html

Mark has the ume stones at the bottom of the list. Hopefully either the ume and Bamboos will be sorted by grit or [better] it will be in two groups like the full sized stones. There's also the 2k ume black at the bottom of the page.

The speckled 2k ume has not yet arrived and will be going out soon.
