New natural stone Takashima Koppa

Fri Jul 12, 2013 5:37 pm

Hi all,

I know this is probably an absurd question to ask, as it was literally added to the site today, but does anyone know anything about the new Takashima Koppa natural stone? I have been hemming and hawing over getting a new stone that I could finish straight razors on, and I am thinking my Arashiyama 6k is insufficient. I am stuck between naturals and synthetics, namely the Imanishi 10k, (and keeping a few dollars in my pocket and just toughing out the current scrape/shave). This is stone is a great price, and just wondered if anyone knows anything about it.

Hi,

Look up "Takashima Suita" on YouTube and you will see two of Maksim's stones in action, though the koppa being a suita chunk is just a guess. I can't comment on the koppa's suitability for a razor. The size may also be relevant information.

Now look up just "Takashima" on YouTube and it's a different world.

I have a takashima stone that looks similar to the koppa on the surface. Takashima stones are typically soft and muddy compared to a lot of finishing stones like ozuku or nakayama. My stone is pretty soft and has a fair number of holes on the surface. It works well on knives, but I don't think it would be good for razors.

I have 2 Takashima's, one a koppa from CKTG, the other from Metal Master in Japan. They are a little softer/muddier than most finishing stones, but they leave a nice edge.

Someone bought it. If it's any of you guys here, I'd like to hear some feedback.

This stone is back in stock. Can we get a review from prior buyer(s)? =)

I just bought one, I'll give it a shot when it shows up. Hopefully it puts a softer edge than my shapton 8k, crox and strop. That setup works but it kind of scrapes.
