Need new knives for our family.

Mon Dec 24, 2012 5:32 pm

We have horrible knives and are thinking of investing in some quality ones. All 3 people living in the house are lefties. Is there a difference or a brand we should consider?
Thanks!

Hi Rene,

How many knives do you want?
I assume you want some stainless knives?
I assume you don't know how to sharpen?
How much did you want to spend?

We have a forum. Would you mind if I post our conversation? Others may add some suggestions.

Kind Regards,

I guess a good cross section of knives for different purposes, cost won't matter much if its worth it, and we could have a lesson on sharpening:) and sure, I'm all for the forum. What do I do?

Hi Rene,

There's a couple ways you can go. If you want something good and you just want to buy a set and be done with it and move on with your life get a Shun Premier set. They're good knives, evenly ground with neutral handles and they will re-sharpen them for you if you pay for shipping them back to their OR office. I'm sure these would be light years ahead of what you're using now.

Most of my customers are into more unique stuff and we have lots of hand made knives from small blacksmith shops in Japan that are a step up in quality from more production type knives like Shun.

If you would like to try something a little more unusual from a smaller factory you could try one of these from Kikuichi: http://www.chefknivestogo.com/kikuichi1.html

Look around the store and check out different brands and if there are others you have questions about let me know and I'll tell you what I think.
