I have a cool project that I'm working on. I'm planning on a line of knives from a great blacksmith and knife grinder from Sakai. I need a good Japanese name for the brand. Got any ideas? I'll fill in the details of this as we get further along but one reason for my trip to Japan is to meet these guys. They're going to be hand made and high end. I'm looking through Japanese sword books to see if there is a name that might be interesting and somewhat related but I'm open to more obscure names that have nothing to do with knife making. Also it has to sound good and be somewhat pronounceable if possible. If I use your name I'll hook you up with a free gift (I have nothing in mind yet).

Yûsuzumi. It means "cool evening", which I think conjures a good image for steel. It comes from this haiku by Kobayashi Issa:
hôchô de unagi yorutsutsu yûsuzumi.
with a kitchen knife
a cool evening

I dont know how I feel about this so I'll answer it 3 ways
(1 and 2.prideful japanese, 3 and 4.a person that wants a free gift ,5. both of the above)
1. ... if its to be a name it should be the maker's.
2. to put it bluntly I think it would be appropriate to put it in katakana
3.特豊 (means: special bountiful) reads: tokuho/hotoku
4.特和 (means special harmony) reads: tokuo
5.白和 (means : white harmony) reads: wabiyake/wahake

MARK <> CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR VENTURE!
As for my offerings, I really like them for this context; hope you do, as well:
Kanarazu - an adverbial prefix indicating something will happen
surely and/or inevitably. As an exclamation, it means "No matter the cost!"
Kokoro - heart. Common extensions of this meaning are "sincerity" and "spirit/willpower."
Makaseru - to place one's trust in someone or something, to count on.
Mamoru - to protect, guard.
Sasuga - a person is living up to his reputation or the speaker's personal expectations.
Shinjiru - to believe in.
Tomodachi - friend.
Yasashii - splendid, exceptional.
Yakusoku - promise, oath
