Lets just say I got in on the "deal" 2 weeks ago. I got the
Goko Damsacus 210mm Gyuto
http://www.chefknivestogo.com/goda21gy.html

I have literally hidden the knife behind my basement fridge. I need to get it out of the house before my wife finds it. I certainly did not "need" it.

So my plan is to send it/mail it to someone and get some custom work done.

1. Anyone have a suggestion on what handle would look good on this particular knife?
2. Who would your recommend to do the work if you have a specific handle in mind?
3. I figured I would get it sharpened by a pro while I was at it.
4. And add a custom saya

Don't judge me or identify the flaw in my judgement (spend more money). I know, it does not need the custom work but why the hell not.

El

I'll agree handles on the goko aren't the best.

I've got the first forum sale one out for a rehandle :)

I quite like the color scheme on that knife, so I'd keep it dark: walnut & ebony perhaps. With a nice contrasting spacer if you are into that.

I would go something basic and crisp si it does not detract from the damascus. Maybe some ebony with a plain white spacer. Or KOA with a black ferrule and no bling.

With a little work and a really nice redwood ferrule replacement by Tim Johnson ,transforms the Goko stock chestnut handle in to something special. Go to Tim's forum under handle makers on the website and click on his post"Some Stuff Done" page 2 October 6 , 2013. That is the handle he put on my Goko wh#1 gyuto. I sanded the stock chestnut to an oval shape which smoothed out the burnt chestnut ridges and made the D shaped handle more lefty friendly. I brought the knife to Tim and he added the redwood ferrule which really accents the the knife. That simple modification made a big difference in how the handle looks and feels. BB

Tim does some great work. I think he is opening up orders in March as he stated on his thread.

I think if you just knock off that plastic/resin ferrule and upgrade it, it will make all the difference in the world.

Lol. I actually like the Goko handle. But I don't know that it is because it is chestnut specifically or that it is big enough for my hand. (I know, I know, that's what she said)
