I understand about the welt, but I also know that kitchen knives will slice right thru leather very easily and quickly. I use one of my petty's to cut down leather occasionally because it cuts so easily. It can be done, but there is the risk of cutting thru the leather/threads/side panels if you aren't careful.

I will create a leather Saya shortly perhaps this weekend as I need one done, if it's a success I will post a tutorial.

Ok , had some off cuts and quickly put together a leather Saya for my petty last night
When I say quick I did this to to test if the knife would damage the leather during insertion , the patterns I quickly whacked out so excuse the rough look,

The fit is snug so there is no movement inside, the blade slides in effortlessly , just like it would if I created a fixed blade sheath (hunting knife), and no damage to leather,

Today I will start with a decent Saya , and take pictures to show on the forum the WIP.

Tack så mycket för att dela
Those are awesome , very impressed with your knives on your website!
I spent some time in Sweden many years ago , helped renovate a house outside Uppsala in the country.
