I wanted to get a work in progress thread going on my m390 knives.
I'm whipping up a little pairing knife for my mom which is almost ready to go to heat treat. The honesuki I just started hogging away some metal today. I also did some light profiling on the nakiri, but it still has a ways to go. The gyuto will end up being 240mm, but it is slightly over sized right now, and needs some serious profiling work, it's no where near the final shape.
So anyway this is where I'm currently at.

I just wanted to give a little update on this, I have made a little more progress, but overall it's going to be
a pretty slow moving project. I will update this thread as I make enough progress to post new pics. The little knife is 98% ready to go to
heat treat. A little FYI I am not a knife maker this is really my first attempt at making knives, but on the other hand I do have a lot of
experience working with metal. For example I have a replica lotus super 7 chassis sitting in the garage I built from the ground up, I've also
built chassis and various components for others cars and I used to be a master diagnostic technician for Lexus for about the last 8 years, but
I am totally out of that business now.
So basically I do have some skills with tools but I am just a regular guy trying to make some quality knives I will try to get some picture updates
within the next week.
I would really like to make a nice quality presentation box for these knives, I plan on giving them to my parents as a gift. Even though I'm
making the gyuto for myself.
I just wanted to let you guys know I haven't forgotten about this thread and will keep it up to date to completion.

Also another pain in my butt when I got metal from Bohler was at the time they didn't have the thinner
plate in stock, so they ended up sending me .177 thick metal, which surprisingly takes a lot more work to

So I just thought I'd post some pictures and a little update. So the little pairing knife I was making was going to be
specificially for my mother, and I'd say I'm about 95% ready for it to go to heat treat. BUT look! what she bought
yesterday !!! I suppose I was pretty close in making a knife she would buy

Check out how thick the stock was originally, that is the tang of the nakiri. Compared to the pairing knife, and then
with the honesuki on top of it. I'd say Im about 85% ready for heat treat on the honesuki

Here is a group shot, the nakiri is basically just profiled and I've just started removing the mill scale.
They gyuto is starting to take shape, about %50 there. You can also see some wood I have picked out and
some other toys, if you're into that kinda thing
I'm hoping pictures can make up for my slow progress.
Take it easy

Looks like we have similar hobbies but I let other folks make my knives for me. Not so gifted when it comes to stuff like this.
