I need about 100 hours on that hammer and I think I could get descent at it. The tricky part is the foot pedal. If you step on the gas it increases the speed of the strikes and the amount of force they hit the blank at so it helps to use one speed. Shosui makes it look really easy.

When I go to Takefu Village in the spring I'm going to give it another shot. :)

Yeah, the foot pedal killed me....and scared the crap out me.

Devin makes it look so easy.....it's not.

Yes his hammer is a monster compared to the one Shosui uses but then again he's using it to make bars of damascus. At least when I was banging on the steel at Devin's I didn't have to be too concerned with contouring the bar. Just smash it flat and flip it. I'm surprised that beast didn't put cracks in his concrete floor it was so big.

That's because there is 6 yards of reinforced concrete under the hammer.

Great job Mark, you make some us look good.
