No disrespect, but silly in my opinion.

Might work if you are so experienced you can use any bit if stone (ie sharpened 50,000+ knives).

I have an even easier way though to keep a stone consistently flat...buy a new one!

Seriously, no disrespect, but Murray has probably already forgotten more about sharpening and knives in general than you and I will ever even know between us. Doesn't mean you have do it the way he does but he's really got the chops here. I'm just sayin'..... ;)

I don't do the eye trick, I just bought an engineer square.

No disrespect, but would you recommend buying a new knife as an easier way to have a consistently sharp knife?

If you watch his latest sharpening DVD that came out within the last year, he admits that he's adopted a different philosophy than explained in the above video. After years of consideration he explains in the newer work that he can see the relevance in periodically flattening ones stones and that it can be an enjoyable part of the overall sharpening experience. -Josh

As for me, It's about what ever works for you. There are so many techniques, opinions, avenues...la la la... It doesn't matter how you get there as long as you get there. I'm still so new I'm using road maps. Sometimes I do a good job sometimes not so good. I made a very nice chefs butter knife the other day. I'll figure out the best way for me at some point.
