Masamoto or Mac Pro?

Hi, wanted to get a good chef's knife, and was looking at the 9.5 masamoto or the mac profession or chef's line, one of which doesn't have a 9.5 but having looked at so many knives, I don't remember which. I was also looking at the dimpled mac. I'm not a professional, but cook a lot and wanted to finally get a high quality chef's knife. I was a little concerned about reading so much about how the Japanese knives can chip, but that being said, I still think that's where I'm leaning. I just don't want to drop a lot of money and have it not be really good bang for my buck. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks. Margaret

They're both equally good knives. We sell more Mac Pros but I think that is more of a function that they've been in the US market longer and with a wider variety of retail stores. I think I'll vote for the Masamoto...we are talking about the Masamoto VG?!?! I like the profile of the knife a lot.
