I love Masakage knives, I have two and chef has one(your welcome boss). I have been looking at Nakiris for the past coupla months, and when I say looking, I think I've looked at every one on this site a mininum of 10x. The top canidates were The Itto, Takeda, Teruyasu, Kiyoshi, Koishi.....All the Higher End brands....,Yuki but I think I found the one I want, The KUJIRA.
I would test drive the Santoko but I would probably end up selling the Teru, and I kinda like having it go with the 240.
There's a good chance that this is the nakiri I'm gonna go with, if they haven't *poofed* OutOfStocked.
I will say this much, If it came in at around 175 or 180, That would be a NoBrainer. It would end up in my knife bag next week. :D
Heck, I just might go with the Santoko or 210.
All I know is, I want one of these knives. 8-)

I'm slightly curious about VG10 at the higher HRC(62-64), but man is this line heavy! 8.8oz for a 240, 6.8oz on a Nakiri ...not my cup of tea, but we all have our own preferences.

Mark, Kujira is Blue #2, the Kiri is the VG10 line. :)

:oops: You are absolutely correct, I did have steels from the 2 lines confused from the discussion about new arrivals a little while ago... guess my memory isn't what it used to be. :roll:

I had already asked Mark to confirm the stats for us, and as far as I can interpret his response, he says these knives are serious.

A 245 gyuto<--link @249 grams, 4mm thick, & 57mm tall is huge.

A 230 gyuto<--link @215 grams & 3.1mm thick is more in line, but 60mm tall... damn this is Takeda-esque.

These are some beastly knives, but from what I heard, "this guy [Kageura-san] really knows how to grind a knife." Definitely not what I expected when I brought them to CKTG's attention, but I'm very excited to see these extremely unique knives on the menu.

A semi compact brute knife, I like it, but the price...wow. How reactive are those blades I wonder.

I didn't get it yet. I'm going to wait. I think I want to get a Teruyasu Gyuto first.
