The HD wa and the white #2 wa are nearly identical. The western HD is a little thicker.

That said, they are ground by hand on a big stone wheel using a wooden jig so there can be variations from knife to knife.

BEEZ <> Obviously, Mark is the one to answer your HD2 question and I am not "stepping on his toes," but I did read him say somewhere that the main difference between the two is in that the new steel will act nearly identically but with better edge retention. And from the way it read, 'twas from the composition - not a HRC variation.
