If it is a true soaker then no. Many of the guys here "permasoak"(store them in water) their stones so they're always ready to use.
Some will soak spalsh-n-go stones briefly before using. If these are soaked to long it can cause the binding to weaken and cause the stone to crack prematurely.
Just a quick rinse is all most stones need after use. If it is clogged just use your flattening plate on it.

I've found these videos very helpful over the last few months. Something that I may have missed in these videos is what is meant by a 4000k edge (for example) and how such a thing is measured. Did I miss this somewhere?

A 4k grit edge (or an 800 grit edge or a 30k grit edge) was finished on a synthetic sharpening stone of the listed grit. This implies a certain level of polish. A 4-6k grit edge is advantageous for most Japanese knives as the geometry of the blade and the steel will hold that level of polish well. Softer Western knives tend to prefer a less polished edge, around 2k. Pocket knives might benefit from less polish to give them micro serrations and razors absolutely require more polish.

That said, different stones of the same grit don't produce an identical edge, though they should be at least vaguely similar. All stones have idiosyncrasies. Some might polish more than others of the same grit, some less; some simply polish differently. Some stones perform better or worse on different steels. Defining an edge by its grit is to give a general idea how it will perform, but won't give the whole picture.

Natural stones on the other hand have particulate in differing sizes, giving then a general grit range instead of a specific number. They act slightly differently as a whole.

I'm sure that makes it all clear as mud.
