Knife Identification

Sun Aug 25, 2013 7:32 am

Hi to you all, I'm a huge fan of CKTG, but I'm fairly new to this forum. I been reading a couple of posts and im amazed of all the talent and knowledge that exist on this forum. I am really exited to be a part of this.

I wanted to see if anyone can help me identify these knives. I got these knives for cheap on ebay, my goal was to repair and resale these knives but I am not shure what I truly have.

The first knife is a Kikuichi 240mm Yanagi, what I cant identify is the stampings on the back of the knife. I havent seen any kikuichi yanagis with stamping in the back of the knife. Here are some pictures.

This is a 240mm Sushi Kiri Knife, for this knife i am trying to find out who made it or what the engraving says.

This is the engraving on it.

Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

365 <> Welcome... 8-)

I haven't seen him in a minute, but our resident ID guru MCKEMAUS will nail this for you when he sees it. You can PM him direct, as well.

The mark on the back of Kikuichi means it is made out of “Yasuki steel.”

It is made by Hitachi and it is also known as Yasuki Special Steel, YSS, or Yasuki Hangane. It is a broad category that includes White Steel, Blue Steel, Super Blue Steel and other types. It is made in Yasugi, in Shimone, where it has a long history of making top quality steel for sword making.

The knife makers on this forum will know more about the steel. I only can read the writing and know a little bit about the history.

The mark on that last knife is “Sakai, Masayuki,” or made in Sakai by Masayuki.
